Preschool Classes for 4-year olds
Three day classes that meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as well as four day classes that meet Monday thru Thursday are offered with morning and afternoon sessions available. A ratio of 14 children with two teachers is maintained.
The focus of the class is on enjoying new adventures and trying new things while getting ready for Kindergarten. A year of skill building is planned including:
- Math Readiness: using a hands-on game approach to counting, number recognition, sorting, patterning, one-to-one correspondence, geometric shapes, concepts of more, less, and equal
- Science: process of observation using questioning, predicting, and experimentation through the five senses
- Pre-Reading: sequencing, rhymes, recognition of letters and letter sounds, following directions, left-right progression
- Pre-Writing: cutting, folding, tracing, drawing, pencil markings, mock letters, names
- Language: communicating with peers and adults, listening attentively, understand directions, responds appropriately to questions, finger plays and poems, and drama
- Self-Help: responsible for personal belongings, washing hands, toileting, buckles, zips, ties
- Socialization: making friends, cooperative play, confidence in self, respect for others, participation
- Gross Motor: balance, hops on either foot, jumps forward and backward, kicks, throws a ball at a target, hopping, running
- Special Events: once each month assemblies with Church leaders, monthly enrichment, holiday parties, events for parents
Daily Schedule (Order varies by class)
- Arrival and Welcome - 5 minutes
- Quiet play - 10 minutes
- Devotion - 5 minutes
- Circle Time - 15 minutes
- Activity Time - 50 minutes
- Bathroom/Snack/Book look - 20 minutes
- Outside or Gym play - 20 minutes
- Music, rhymes, games - 15 minutes
- Closing Circle and Dismissal - 10 minutes
