Preschool Classes for 5-year olds
A four day class is offered that meets Monday-Thursday with both morning and afternoon sessions available. A ratio of 15 children with two teachers is maintained.
The focus of the program is on enrichment and furthering kindergarten readiness skills. This is the class for the child who would benefit from an extra year of preschool before entering Kindergarten.
- Language: dramatization, books, vocabulary building, using words for problem solving, following directions in sequence, asking and answering questions
- Science: beginning chemistry (colors, crystals, and creation), first physics (how things work), earth exploration, weather
- Math: counting to 15 and higher, identifying numerals 15 and higher, extending patterns, recognizing and naming geometric shapes, money, concept of adding to and subtracting from
- Pre-Reading: upper/lower case letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming words, book knowledge
- Writing: prints first and last names, prints letters & numbers, draws shapes, uses pincer grasp, copies words
- Social Studies: study of other cultures, community helpers, understanding people with different needs
- Gross Motor: gallops/skips, jumps backwards, catches a tennis ball, runs and kicks a ball
- Socialization: seeks other to play with, acceptance of others, follows school routines, interacts while expressing needs and feelings, stays on task, makes choices by self, respects classmates and adults
Daily Schedule (Order varies by class)
- Arrival and Welcome 5 minutes
- Quiet play - 15 minutes
- Devotion - 5 minutes
- Circle Time - 20 minutes
- Activity Time - 45 minutes
- Snack/Book look - 15 minutes
- Outside or Gym play - 20 minutes
- Music, rhymes, games - 20 minutes
- Closing Circle and Dismissal - 5 minutes
